History

Leighton is a ghost town in Stiles Junction, Oconto County, Wisconsin. The community and settlement of Leighton was named for the John Leigh family who settled in the area along the Little River in the late 1860s and operated a small sawmill there into the 1880s. As in the case of many such settlements, the railroad's station name soon became the commonly used term and Leighton was renamed Stiles Junction ca. 1882.
